Yankees Drop Home Opener To Indians

April 16, 2009

The celebration was well underway for the Yankee brass as the new stadium was finally put to use against the visiting Cleveland Indians. The ceremony featured the return of fan favorite now retired former Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams. Williams performed in the opening to a sold out stadium awaiting the teams to take the field.

The Indians ruined the opening crushing the Yankees 10 – 2 after knocking starter C.C. Sabathia out of the game after only 5 2/3 innings and 122 pitches. The big blow came from Grady Seizemore who hit his third career grand slam.
